I recently visited Northern Arizona University for a football camp with my son (remember, when my car blew up!). I love the forests around everywhere. I took some time to read in the woods and enjoy nature. We don’t have much of it in Las Vegas. Alone time is important, and many of us don’t get enough of it. Solitude has been known as a time to “return to the self.” What does that mean? Additionally, what are some benefits related to solitude?
Four Amazing Benefits of Solitude
- Freedom. You have the freedom to do what you want. When you are in a group, you have to consider the needs and wants of others. Additionally, you may be influenced by the opinions of others. With solitude, you are it.
- Creativity. When you are alone, you can allow your creative thoughts to run wild. Solitude is an opportunity to dig deep within yourself to create a masterpiece that began as a seed in your soul.
- Intimacy. By yourself? What? Hear me out. Solitude provides an opportunity to reflect on those you care most amount. You can ponder major questions on relationships.
- Spirituality. Time alone provides you with the opportunity to develop wisdom and insight into the still human soul.
Take yourself on a date! Get to know yourself better. This may sound stupid, but this is what the “return to the self” phrase is all about. In this day and age of rapid technology, take some time to turn everything off. Grab a good book and swing on a hammock with your cell phone off. Take a nice long walk or jog along beautiful scenery. Talk to yourself in your head or out loud (just don’t blame me if anyone calls you crazy). Find a tree stump in the woods and enjoy the sounds of nature: a leaf rustling, a bird chirping, and maybe a frog croaking. (Make sure you know where you are at and how safe you will be. We don’t need any The Lovely Bones stories!) Sit on a beach away from the crowds. Praise yourself (I promise it’s okay. I think we spend more time putting ourselves down than lifting ourselves up.) Think about all the good that you’ve done. Think about all the good you want to accomplish. Then, go do it! How you feel is what you will attract.
I promise that you will feel rejuvenated if you spend some time in solitude.
What do you think of alone time?
