I came across a super intelligent & sweet girl’s blog, Maddie, who said “potential” is a bad word. This made me curious. She has a great argument for why using the word “potential” can seem bad. In essence, her point is that when you are told you have “potential,” there is an immediate fear of that potential being wasted.
This fear creates stress that can paralyze us from taking steps forward. Everyone has fear. And that’s okay. Instead of feeding into fear, evaluate where your energy is being spent. The one thing we can’t get more of is time. With your limited time, are you cultivating your potential in someone else’s dream?
Is it your dream or goal?
When we are young, we are easily moldable. Often we want to please our parents, friends, or other adults around us. What if you are told you have great potential in many areas? This can sound amazing, but it also can be stressful. Sometimes when we juggle too much, everything in our hands falls. (This guy is hilarious by the way! 😂)
Potential and Passion
Potential should hold the hand of passion. Identify what you are passionate about. What difference(s) do you want to make. Passion should be the root of your dreams and goals. Passion will win out over fear any day. Always make time for your passions. It only takes one step at a time. You may surprise yourself at what your potential may be.
In summary, when you pursue your passion, your potential will never be wasted. The sky is the limit.
P.S. This is what happens when you juggle passion, potential, and your dreams/goals together.
